Zdjęcie Magdaleny GóryMagdalena Góra, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor (political science) at the Institute of European Studies of the Jagiellonian University primarily concentrating her work on democracy challenges in the European Union after enlargement, crisis of representative democracy, the external relations of the European Union and democratic practices in EU’s close neighborhood. She has worked and taught in a number of academic institutions worldwide. She led and participated in several research projects funded by the Polish National Science Center, COST programme. Recently she was a co-leader of WP on the Future of Europe Debate within Horizon 2020 funded project EU3D. EU Differentiation, Dominance and Democracy (2019-2023). She is a WP leader within Horizon Europe project SHAPEDEM-EU: EU democracy support in its Eastern and Southern Neighbourhoods (2022-2025) and WP leader in REDIRECT. The REpresentative DIsconnect: diagnosis and strategies for RECTification. She participated in the Jean Monnet Network ‘The European Union at the Crossroads of Global Order’ (EUCROSS) (2017-2020) and Jean Monnet Network: REACTIK - cReative Economy And Culture inTernatIonal link. She was also involved in the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Innovative Training Network: ‘Delayed Transformational Fatigue in Central and Eastern Europe: Responding to the Rise of Illiberalism/Populism’ (FATIGUE) (2018-2022). She published several journal articles and book chapters and also co-edited volumes. She was awarded the Fulbright Senior Award for pursuing her research at New York University in 2020.

Tomasz Soroka, Ph.D. is a Political scientist, a Canadianist, and an assistant professor at the Institute of American Studies and Polish Diaspora, Jagiellonian University, Krakow. He earned his doctoral degree in humanities (political science) in 2010; His publications cover a variety of topics related to the political, legal, and cultural evolution of Canada as well as Canadian contemporary foreign and immigration policies.

Currently, in his research, he focuses on Canada’s language laws and policies. He has been an awardee of grants offered by the International Council of Canadian Studies and Polish academic institutions (incl. The National Science Center). As a visiting scholar, he has conducted research at the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, McGill University in Montreal, and the University of Toronto.
